Yulan Guan Yin

Today I would like to share a story about Dragon Guan Yin.

There is a small village near the ocean Coast. All the citizens live in this village they all rely on fishing to make a living. One time, there is a huge thunderstorm in the ocean near the coast of this village. Many of the villagers their family member travel in this East Ocean. They travel to the middle of the ocean thunderstorm suddenly arise and none of them can escape from this thunderstorm. All these fishers, these workers working in the fishing boat they were shocked with this thunderstorm. Every one of them got on the deck and tried to see why this time this thunderstorm was so different than before.

One of the fishermen he saw there's a monster swimming inside the ocean, so he called all his co-workers say everyone try to come. Come to see this monster there. The senior fishermen were laughing at him saying nonsense I have been fishing all my life I never see a monster in this East Ocean. The weird thing is that they saw this monster not only swimming in the ocean and sometimes this monster flying above the ocean surface, flying in the sky, because all of them notice that this monster has a dragon head, but the same time the monster has a turtle body.

So, all the fishermen acknowledged this. This is not a typical monster. It is a very strange monster seems attacking them and wanting to eat all of them. So, one of the fishermen in this boat he is a very sincere Buddhist. When he saw this kind of monster, none of them can fight with this strange monster and he know he maybe will die and eaten up by this monster. So, he is not afraid and immediately he asked all the fishermen say, "stop being panic all of you should begin calling Guan Yin Bodhisattva's name if you want to follow me maybe your life can be saved. But none of them listen to his advice and continue running around try to escape from this boat. Some people they jump into the ocean immediately they've been drowned by the huge ocean wave and some of them stay in the boat by running around and very panic but only this man he sat down and he closed his eyes and he palmed his palm together and he chanting the name of Guan Yin, "Na Mo Guan Shi Yin Pu Sa". He's chanting Guan Yin Bodhisattva's name.

Afterwards he continued reciting Great Compassion Mantra and he was chanting the Guan Yin Bodhisattva Heart Mantra. When the time he was chanting the Mantra, calling Guan Yin Bodhisattva's name and a very strange things happened. In the very far of the sky there is a very auspicious cloud this cloud made with the five colors of the rainbow flying closely to their boat. When these five colors of the rainbow cloud appear above their boat this monster actually jumping above the sea and try attacking this boat. All the fishermen in this boat were running screaming crying and try to get out of this boat. Some people jump into the ocean some people running around and try to find somewhere they can hide their body so they will not be eaten by a monster. This monster swimming into the ocean flying up to the sky and about to attack this boat.

Suddenly these five rainbows of colors cloud divide into half. In the middle of the cloud slowly appeared the Guan Yin Bodhisattva. The Guan Yin Bodhisattva above the boat gave the education to the monster say, "monster, you were a cultivator before and why you cannot give up your bad habitual behavior still chasing and eating human and hurting other animals. Now you should stop this behavior really continue become a good practitioner follow my teaching helping all the beings. If you don't do this now you are never able to free your own suffering. You will always stay in this ocean suffer by no food, suffer by other animals through harming you." Once Guan Yin Bodhisattva delivered this short teaching to this monster, the monster seemed very touched, but immediately this monster with the turtle body dragon head and his whole body slowly transformed from a dragon head turtle body to completely become a dragon again.

Once this Turtle Dragon transformed back to the very gorgeous Dragon, Guan Yin Bodhisattva says, "you were a king of the Dragon before but because of your hatred and you cultivated your mind, you rebirthed as this monster. Now because you want to repent your bad Karma after listening to my teaching. You decide to transform yourself. That's why you can transform yourself back to a whole body of dragon. Now you will no longer become a monster anymore. You will have a full ability as what you have before. Once the dragon listens to Guan Yin Bodhisattva's teaching, the Dragon flied into the sky and bowed to the Guan Yin Bodhisattva and say, "Guan Yin Bodhisattva, I was your disciple in my previous life and now because of your generous teaching I am able to do my repentance. I'm able to recover my life of a Dragon King. From now and on, I vow to you I will always protect you become your Dharma protector. Not only that whenever and wherever the area, country, or region have drowning or flood, I will be flying there with you to resolve the disaster for all the beings. That is my vow to you, Guan Yin Bodhisattva. Please take my sincere vow.

Once this Dragon King say this, Guan Yin Bodhisattva smiled, and immediately Guan Yin Bodhisattva flied on top the Dragon and flying away. So, as we know in this boat, many of the fishermen were so scared only one fisherman he's a sincere Buddhist but all of them witnessed this dialogue between the monster and Guan Yin Bodhisattva. And once they witnessed their conversation, this sincere Buddhist fisherman told rest of his colleagues say we should all sincerely make a vow to Guan Yin Bodhisattva as well, so he led everyone to kneel down, and do a prayer to Guan Yin Bodhisattva and they say, "Guan Yin Bodhisattva, please sincerely take my repentance due to our bad Karma before always enjoy fishing hunting the animals to making our own living that's why we have this bad karma right now, being hurt by this monster. Now we sincerely do this repentance to you, Guan Yin Bodhisattva. Please accept our repentance about our bad Karma of killing. Once all of them say this, sincerely make this vow and bow to the sky the magical thing happened.

Immediately this beautiful five colored cloud flying close to their boat and at the same time Guan Yin Bodhisattva appear in the sky, but the difference is this time is riding a dragon appear above the boat, and Guan Yin Bodhisattva said: "After my teaching to monster to all of you, I'm very pleased to see all of you do this repentance and make a sincere vow not hurting any sentient being afterwards and from now on all of you will continue to practice this kindness to all the beings and do not harm any animals and you will have a good life in the future." Once Guan Yin Bodhisattva said that she pointed her finger and all the fishermen in this boat immediately magically flying back to their village. The magical thing happened. In this Village, it is no longer just a village everyone hunting the fish or hurting animals. In this village, they have a very beautiful farm after the Guan Yin Bodhisattva pointing the finger. Once they return back to their home village, they saw Guan Yin Bodhisattva appear in the sky, and all the villagers bowed to Guan Yin Bodhisattva and name this Guan Yin Bodhisattva Dragon Guan Yin.

The Guan Yin appeared in the East Sea handling and delivering the teaching to this monster, Turtle Dragon monster let him become a protector of the Guan Yin. This story has been shared around along the coast of the ocean for all the villagers not only in these villagers next Village around the East Sea of the coast none of them become a fisher after Guan Yin Bodhisattva's teaching. They all become farmers after they witnessed Guan Yin Bodhisattva's true teaching.

So, this is one of the old saying, saying Guan Yin Bodhisattva appeared in the East Ocean and the delivery teaching not only to the monster but also the villagers changing their lifestyle but another old saying Guan Yin Bodhisattva riding on a dragon also comfort and resolve one of the floods happened fifty years ago.
